Common name: Chagual chico, Pitcairnia sphaerocephala, Puya gaudichaudii
Height: 1,5m-1,8m
Growing: slow
Foliage: evergreen, the leafs are filled with inward pointing needle-sharp spines.
Flowers / Fruits: forms a great pink stemmed spike, filled with turqoise purple flowers.
Site: sun
Soil: alkaline to slightly acid, well-drained soil.
Irrigation: few
Hardiness: semi-hardy -5 ºC

Long description: Puya venusta produces splendid and eye-catching rosettes of silvery-grey, succulent, spiny leaves.  It will form a great pink stemmed, wax-like spike. The spike is completely filled with deep reddish-violet flowers. A spectaculair eye-cathing Chilean Puya!
