Jubaea chilensis (Chilean Wine Palm, Coquito Palm, Jubaea spectabilis, Cocos chilensis)

Jubaea chilensis, the Chilean Wine Palm, is endemic to a small area of Central Chile. Jubaea chilensis is the most hardy feather palm from Chile. Jubaea is well known for its impressive and massive trunk, which is formed through the years. In the Chilean Jubaea forests, adult specimens with trunk diameters up to almost 2 meters can be found!

The last few years Jubaea chilensis palms have become more popular in Europe. Its massive but smooth trunk and its cold resistents make this rare and still unusual Chilean palm one of a kind!

Interesting to know:

  • Jubaea chilensis is hardy down to -15 / 18ºC (USDA zone 8, 7 under right circumstances);
  • Jubaea chilensis is the hardiest feather palm from Chile;
  • Jubaea chilensis Forms a massive but very smooth trunk;
  • Jubaea chilensis produces fruits, which contain edible mini coconuts!
