Long description: evergreen conifer with thick, tough and scale like leaves. The leaves are broad at the base, with razor-sharp edges. Leaves of Araucana are more narrow than those of  angustifolia. Angustifolia bears cones with long nut-like seeds as Araucaria araucana.

Young trees have a pyramid-shaped crown, resembling a closed umbrella. This sight will change during the ages. In adult trees, the lower branches will abscise, changing the looks of the tree into an open umbrella, with the tip of the branches pointing upwards.
